Chelsea and Manchester United are battling for Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel.
Reports from Belgium claim the Blues have been in touch about the starlet, 19, who has impressed in the Champions League qualifiers and UEFA Cup this season.
The Old Trafford club were said to have bid £19m last month - and Chelsea have made a move while United have been in Japan for the FIFA Club World Cup.
