Chelsea have suffered a major blow with knee injury forcing John Terry out of the first month of the new season.

The Sun says Chelsea's England skipper underwent a scan yesterday afternoon which confirmed he has suffered medial ligament damage.

And his absence will force Blues boss Jose Mourinho to step up his efforts to complete the signing of Brazilian international Alex before Sunday's Premier League opener at home to Birmingham.
