Chelsea midfielder Mata expecting improvement

Juan Mata expects to improve his output for Chelsea despite a successful debut season with the club.

The Spanish midfielder won the fans' Player of the Year award at Stamford Bridge last term before representing Spain at both Euro2012 and the London Olympic Games.

Mata admits it was a fantastic campaign for him from a personal viewpoint but after not featuring in the Premier League for the past month, is intent on getting back to action and picking up his individual performances for the trophy-chasing Blues.

"The break was important for me because it is a busy season with five trophies," he told the London Evening Standard.

"It was a busy summer for me with the European Championship and the Olympics but now I feel fit and strong. I want to play because I love to play football.

"My first season here was amazing for me but I want to improve. I can because I am still young and believe I can always get better. I would like to score more goals, create more goals and learn to defend better."
