Lampard's career at Chelsea was also written off last term as the club stalled over a new contract before some fine performances saw them relent and hand him a 12-month deal in May.
The 35-year-old expects more negative reviews but told the London Evening Standard: "I enjoy all that stuff. I don't mind people writing me off, it comes with the territory of playing for a top club like Chelsea and for England.
"Sometimes you do read the criticism and say to yourself 'I want to prove that wrong' and that's what you have to do.
"We have these few games to qualify for the World Cup and I'd love to be involved. That means I need to keep my performances high for Chelsea and England to stay in the game.
"If I can do that I'll be delighted because World Cups only come round every four years and this will be my last one."
