Cole has failed to command regular first-team football with Chelsea since returning from a long-term injury and some feel his sporadic action could count against him.
However, the one-time West Ham starlet feels the Italian tactician knows what he brings to the table and is of the firm belief that his performances have aided his chances of making the final cut.
"(Capello) knows what I can do - it's hard to play as well as you would like when you are getting 20 minutes here, 30, 45 - it's difficult to show your true quality," said Cole.
"You need to feel that you are confident you are going to play and it can take time to get into the game.
"I think I've been guilty a bit because of that because of starting and thinking I might be dragged out at any minute. I've probably being trying a bit too hard at times.
"But I think the manager has seen that every time I have played I have applied myself and done well and given something for the team."
