Chelsea have opened new contract talks with Juan Mata.

The London Evening Standard says Chelsea are in talks with Mata over a new five-year contract, even though he still has three years to run on his current deal.

Mata is one of the lowest-paid first-team players on around £70,000 a week but Chelsea want to reward him for his superb displays by taking his salary past the £100,000-a-week barrier to bring him in line with other senior members of the squad.
