Chelsea have made a £35 million offer for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli.
The Daily Mail says Antonio Conte met with the club's hierarchy on Wednesday as he looks to add at least three more signings to his squad before next Wednesday's deadline.
A centre-back remains his priority and Chelsea have lodged their offer, which includes add-ons, for the elegant Romagnoli despite Milan saying he is not for sale.
The 21-year-old joined Milan from Roma for £21m last summer but Chelsea are willing to give them a substantial profit as they grow exasperated in their attempts to strengthen their defence.
Torino's Nikola Maksimovic remains an alternative though Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly is discussing a contract extension.
