Chelsea made us work with nine men - QPR's Helguson

QPR striker Heidar Helguson says he cannot explain why Chelsea made life so difficult for the team after going down to nine men on Sunday.

The Iceland international netted the only goal at Loftus Road to give the R's a famous West London derby victory which ended with the visiting Chelsea team receiving two red cards and seven yellows.

Helguson admitted it was vital to get the win but is unsure why the Blues were so much more dangerous when disadvantaged by two men.

"More important than me scoring was us getting the win because we really needed a home win, it's been a while," Helguson told London24.

"It is good that it came against them because we are going into a tough run of games now, so to win the first one was great.

"I thought we were more comfortable when it was 11 against 11. It didn't seem to make it any easier for us when they went down to nine men and I don't know why that was, it's just one of those things.

"I thought they played really well in the second half, they made us chase the ball a bit.

"Sometimes when you are a man up - or two - it can actually work to give the other side a bit of a lift. That's what happened with Chelsea."
