Chelsea are closing in on Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
The Daily Express says Chelsea sent scouts to watch Gomis, 27, in Lyon's defeat against Paris St Germain at the weekend, the fourth game in a row they have watched the French international.
Gomis, a centre-forward in the mode of a Didier Drogba, has hit 10 goals this season in 18 appearances, but the key factor is that his club have financial problems and are ready to sell if the right offer comes in.
Liverpool have also been chasing Gomis for some time and are ready to offer about £8m.
But with Chelsea's long-time first-choice Radamel Falcao priced out of their reach by Atletico Madrid, at £46m - at least until next summer - the Blues are looking at other targets who are more likely to be available.
