Gianfranco Zola says West Ham United would still be a Premier League club if he was in charge.

Zola insists he takes great pride in the job he did - especially given the significant investment in players made under Avram Grant's management.

The former Chelsea great told the People: "It didn't go the way it was supposed to go when I was at West Ham but we're proud of ourselves because we played with a team that probably wasn't as good as the team of last season.

"Much credit goes to the players because when I was there they never gave up and it was very much appreciated."
