Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit says Roberto di Matteo must be given the job full-time.

Gullit was a popular player and ­successful manager during his days at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, it was during his ­managerial reign that the Blues recruited Di Matteo as a player from Lazio.

He told the Sunday Mirror: "Roberto must be appointed as manager of Chelsea ­permanently.

"He has done a terrific job in taking the club to the final of the FA Cup by knocking out rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

"And now on they're on the edge of ­reaching the Champions League Final at the expense of the best football team in the world in Barcelona.''
