Chelsea legend Didier Drogba sees winning the African Nations Cup with Ivory Coast as the ideal way to close his career.

The two-time African Player of the Year is still haunted by his penalty miss in normal time against Zambia. But having ended an eight-year stay at Chelsea last May by scoring the equaliser and winning penalty in the Champions League final win over Bayern Munich, Drogba now wants to bring down the curtain on his international career in equally triumphant fashion.

"I don't think it would be the end of a golden generation," he said.

"It will certainly be the end for me, but the others will be able to win the trophy, I'm sure.

"As captain of this team, all the guys seem to be linked to me, but there are still many players who will be left behind after I've gone and will keep going for two, three, four or even five tournaments.

"I'm not thinking about myself, I'm thinking about the team. We will win it one day, maybe with or without me. Even if I don't win it, I'll still be part of the team because I have helped to build it over the last 10 years."
