Chelsea legend Chopper Harris says they must buy Tottenham star Luka Modric.

Andre Villas-Boas has the blessing of Roman Abramovich to launch a new swoop for the Croatian international.

And Chelsea legend Ron "Chopper" Harris says Villas-Boas must splash the cash on Modric in the January transfer window to get the Londoners' season back on track.

"Modric is a very gifted player. Chelsea need impetus and Modric can provide that," Harris, who played 795 times for the Blues, told the Daily Star Sunday.

"It's just a question of whether or not Spurs can keep hold of him. They know Chelsea will break the bank to get him and can probably double his wages."
