Chelsea are lining up a bid for Real Madrid fullback Fabio Coentrao. The Daily Star says Chelsea are considering a £12m move for Coentrao if Ashley Cole leaves.

Cole's future is in doubt with his contract running out and interim boss Rafa Benitez recently admitting he could be on his way out.

Coentrao is a regular for Portugal and Chelsea tried to sign him for Andre Villas-Boas before he went to Spain.

He is under contract until June 2017 but Madrid are looking to sell players to help fund a big summer spend and he is one of several on the transfer list.

A club source said: "If an interesting offer comes in, we will consider it."
