Chelsea are ready to pay over the odds to land Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in the coming days.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich is willing to go to £60 million for Torres, who has already demanded a transfer from Liverpool - a request that was rejected last night.
The Daily Star says Torres was in Spain yesterday on the second of three scheduled days off.
A £50m escape clause was written into his contract last summer, but it only kicks in at the end of this season, and Torres wants out now.
His advisers have been working behind the scenes to broker a move to a club that can offer him regular Champions League football.
And despite a mini-resurgence under Kenny Dalglish, Torres still feels he cannot fulfil his career ambitions on Merseyside.
