Chelsea keeper Schwarzer explains Australia retirement
The Australian decided to end his long career for his country earlier this week.
He said: "I just got to the point where I've been thinking about it for quite some time and i felt that i couldn't give the commitment that needed to be given to represent my country at the highest level and at the World Cup.
"I've always been one who felt I've had to be 100 per cent committed all the way and i felt physically really good but mentally i think was the biggest challenge and i just knew it was the right time to move on and pass on the baton.
"It was a great honour and a great pleasure. I've played for the Socceroos for 20 years so that's a huge part of my life full stop. I've had some unbelievable times that i will cherish for the rest of my life and it has been a great honour."
