Chelsea won their Champions League last-16 first leg clash 2-0 over FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night and took a significant step towards the quarter-finals. Blues stopper Petr Cech is looking at this result as a springboard for bringing silverware to Stamford Bridge this season.
With the team sitting fifth in the Premier League and having been dumped out of the FA Cup by Everton last weekend, a repeat of their 2009/10 domestic double is now impossible.
But Cech has yet to give up hope of closing the 12-point league gap to leaders Manchester United, who Chelsea have to play twice.
The goalkeeper told Chelsea's official website: "The Champions League is a very good competition and it is a competition Chelsea has never won before. We want to go and win it.
"Recently things have not been going our way. We are behind in the league, we are out of the FA Cup and so this competition is what we are looking for. We want to go all the way and win it. This is our aim.
"Of course we are behind in the league, but we have to play Manchester United twice. There is a long way to go and everyone knows we are fighting for this trophy.
"And a win is always good for the confidence. Now we have seven days to get ready for the Manchester United game and we will try to close the gap in the league by winning that game.
"We are still very far behind. We will need a lot of luck for everybody else to drop points, but we will fight until the very last moment."
