‘Chelsea is in trouble!’ - Emenalo explains Mourinho sacking

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo has spoken of the club's decision to end their relationship with Jose Mourinho.

The Blues made the choice to sack Mourinho on Thursday following a horror start to their Premier League title defence which sees the West Londoners sitting just a point above the relegation zone.

Regarding the dismissal of the 52-year-old, who achieved so much success at Stamford Bridge, Emenalo said something had to be done after the Portuguese had lost the trust of the players.

"It was a decision taken to protect the interest of the club," Emenalo said on Chelsea TV.

"While there is huge sentiment for the individual who has done so much for the club, the fact of the matter remains that Chelsea football club is in trouble. The results are not good.

"There obviously seemed to be a palpable discord between manager and players, and we feel it was time to act.

"The owner was forced to make a very tough decision for the good of the club.

"Make no mistake about it, Chelsea football club, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is one point above relegation in the English Premier League and that's not good enough.

"Anybody, or any fan, even those who are not fans who love the club or have any kind of affiliation to the club, can understand that this club is in trouble.

"Something needed to be done."
