Frank Lampard cannot wait to face his former international teammate Steven Gerrard in Major League Soccer.

Former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Lampard has joined Eastern Conference side New York City FC while Gerrard will be playing in the West for the LA Galaxy.

The pair are set to meet for the first time in North America's top flight when the Galaxy host NYCFC at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on August 23.

"I can't wait," Lampard told the club's official website.

"I've played against Steven so many times in my career, at one stage we seemed to play each other almost 10 times a season because of cups and Champions League and all that stuff.

"I have a huge amount of respect for him. I'm delighted that he's joined the league, I think it's great for the MLS as a whole.

"As soon as the fixture list came out that date was pencilled in and I'm really ready for that game.

"I think it's two really big clubs playing against each other and to have the opportunity to play against Steven again is a great one, and I'm going to be really ready for that game."
