Chelsea hero Nevin: Giroud & Morata form gives Conte 'dream situation'

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin believes the play of Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata has handed Antonio Conte the 'dream scenario' for the final games of the season.

Giroud scored a remarkable goal to put Chelsea ahead in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final win over Southampton. Morata, who Giroud replaced in the starting line-up, then came off the bench to score the Blues' second goal, sealing their place in the final, where they will play Manchester United.

And Nevin, who played over 250 games for the west London club, believes the duo's form gives Conte the perfect selection headache.

"So once again Antonio's decision paid off," Nevin wrote in his column for Chelsea's website. "When he brought on Olivier at Southampton he scored two, he stuck with him and he notched at Wembley.

"Even when he was replaced, Alvaro Morata was very quickly on the scoresheet with yet another trademark header from his habitual supplier, Cesar Azpilicueta.

"For the manager this is a dream scenario, both strikers scoring and for the first time in a while, a clean sheet to boot."
