Former Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly has slammed the FA after John Terry's shock international retirement. Terry stunned English football with his announcement on Sunday.
Ex-France and Chelsea skipper Desailly, who played 158 times for the Blues, said: "It's sad. The national team is what gives you the biggest exposure in your career.
"It is the FA who have put him in difficulty, who have not protected him when they should have."
Desailly, speaking at a promotion event in France, also blames the FA for stripping Terry of the England captaincy back in February.
He added: "It is not Fabio Capello who made him retire. The FA took a sporting decision without consulting with the national team manager."
