Chelsea have dismissed rumours that left-back Ashley Cole's season is over because of his broken ankle.

The England international suffered the injury against Everton in early February but has since had successful surgery and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Recent reports have suggested that Cole would miss the remainder of the season and would also be in doubt for the World Cup later in the year but the Blues have rubbished those claims.

"The club's medical staff are delighted with Ashley's operation and the treatment he's received so far," said a club spokesman.

"Contrary to reports, he's recovering extremely well from his injury and he's bang on schedule."
