Chelsea had bid for Porto fullback Telles rejected

Chelsea had a £20 million offer for Porto defender Alex Telles turned down during the January transfer window.

According to reports in Portugal, Chelsea were looking to bring in competition for Marcos Alonso during the past transfer window and it appears that Telles was one of their main targets.

In addition to Telles, Alex Sandro of Juventus was also a target but the Blues eventually settled for the services of Emerson Palmieri from Roma for an undisclosed fee.

Speaking ahead of this season, the agent of Telles, Fernando Otto claimed that his client would move away from Porto either during the course of this season or the next.

He said: "When he went to Galatasaray, we had an offer from Chelsea for Alex. But at the time, we had already confirmed a pre-contract with Galatasaray, and we could not go back,"

"But there was information exchange, last year too. And I believe that maybe one day he will play for Chelsea.

"I don't know if it's going to be this season or the next. But I feel like one day he can play for Chelsea."
