Chelsea great Zola not pondering Cagliari exit

Gianfranco Zola has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving his role as manager at Cagliari.

The former Chelsea and Italy star saw his side lose 2-1 to Hellas Verona on Saturday which saw them remain in the bottom three on the Serie A table.

The defeat was a fourth in five outings for the Rossoblu but did nothing to deter the hopes of the former West Ham United and Watford boss who took the reins at the Stadio Sant'Elia in December last year.

"Resignation? I am thinking of other things," Zola told Sky Sport Italia.

"Obviously I am not happy with the result. I take my share of the responsibility, but we must understand how to get ourselves out of this situation.

"Verona scored a goal on a scenario we had studied during the week. That means we are fragile and that damages our performances.

"Verona were able to bring home the full result with minimal effort. It's a shame, as the players are working hard and I thank them. At moments like this we really need our fans.

"I knew it would not be easy, but we have to show our character."

Zola's Cagliari will now prepare to produce their first league win since January 24 when they take on sixth placed Sampdoria next weekend.
