Chelsea fullback Marcos Alonso admits he expected his Spain snub.

After an outstanding season with Chelsea, Alonso was expected to make the La Rojas World Cup squad. But coach Julen Lopetegui ignored the defender upon naming his selection this week.

Former Real Madrid Castilla defender Alonso insisted: "I expected it, I did not see the list live and I did not know I was not going to be called until they told me.

"After a long season there is finally a bit of rest to recharge the batteries, I am happy with the season at Chelsea and now I am calm, I am going to rest and keep working so that next year I will be better."
