Chelsea fullback Ashley Cole courted controversy during the tense pre-match handshakes with QPR. The Sunday Mirror says Rs defender Anton Ferdinand and skipper Ji-Sung Park refused to shake hands with Chelsea duo John Terry and Cole.

As Ferdinand brushed past Cole the England defender half turned and spat onto the turf.

Cole had given ­evidence in the court case that found Terry not guilty of racially abusing Ferdinand last season.
