Chelsea favourites for Ipswich striker Wickham

Chelsea are favourites to land Ipswich Town teenage striker Conor Wickham.

The Sunday Mirror says the 16-year-old, 6ft 3in striker became the youngest player ever to appear for the Championship club last season – and he’s attracted attention from all the top clubs in the Premier League.

Scouts from Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa as well as Chelsea were at Ipswich’s league game with Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road yesterday.

The Colchester-born teenager has already represented England at Under-17 level.

Chelsea are set to swoop in the January transfer window. They are willing to pay £5million, which could rise to three times that figure should Wickham progress through the ranks there.
