Chelsea have failed with an opening offer for AS Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko.

L'Equipe report Chelsea have offered just £26m for the midfielder.

The Blues appeared to have won the race after Bakayoko reportedly made the decision to join the Premier League champions.

However, despite Bakayoko's desire to move to Stamford Bridge, Monaco won't accept any bid less than £39million.

Bakayoko was an integral member of Monaco's squad as they won the Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Saint Germain.
