Chelsea facing FIFA transfer ban over illegal youth signings

Chelsea face a possible transfer ban after being accused of contravening the rules while signing 25 foreign-born youth players.

FIFA first announced last September that they were looking into allegations against Chelsea that they had illegally signed youth players from overseas.

Should they be found guilty, the Blues will become the first club from England to face sanctions.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were all previously found guilty and slapped with two-window transfer bans.

Real had their punishment halved after launching a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

It is believed that FIFA were first alerted to Chelsea's alleged transgressions following the signing of Burkina Faso international Bertrand Traore.

He signed professionally for Chelsea on 1st January 2014, which was after his 18th birthday.

However, pictures emerged of him playing for the club at the age of 16 against Arsenal in a "non-competitive game" on 23 October 2011.
