Chelsea face fine over charges

Chelsea face a fine likely to be at least £20,000 after they were charged with failing to control their players for a fourth time in 18 months.

The FA action followed Blues players surrounding referee Mike Dean after he sent off John Obi Mikel in Sunday's defeat at Old Trafford.

Assistant manager Steve Clarke also faces a fine and possible touchline ban for alleged comments directed at the official.

Chelsea plan to contest the allegations and Mirror Sport understands they will point to a lack of consistency in the approach of Dean and the FA to the conduct of Manchester United's players.

A statement said: "Chelsea FC will be strongly defending the two charges issued by the FA and will be considering that defence until we have to respond on October 12."
