Chelsea drop asking price for West Ham target Clarke

Chelsea have climbed down from the demands for West Ham coaching target Steve Clarke.

The Sun says the Hammers have been told they will have to cough up £1.2million for Clarke.

The Chelsea coach is determined to quit Stamford Bridge and become No 2 to new Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola.

Clarke wants to link up with his old pal but the Blues have put Clarke, 45, on gardening leave after refusing to accept his resignation last week.

Recent reports suggested Chelsea were asking for £4.8m compensation.
