Chelsea are determined to see off all competition for Portsmouth fullback Glen Johnson.
The Daily Express says Johnson will leave Portsmouth this summer, with Chelsea at the head of a queue that includes Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham.
It is understood a decision on Johnson's future will be made within the next two weeks and Chelsea believe they can beat their rivals to his signature.
Johnson, by his own admission, suffered a torrid time in his first spell at Stamford Bridge before moving to Fratton Park and has slight reservations about returning.
But he believes he needs to be playing in the Champions League to be sure of a place in England manager Fabio Capello's World Cup squad and that gives Chelsea an edge over City.
