John Terry admits he was surprised by the England call-up handed to Chelsea teammate Michael Mancienne.
Terry said: "I was maybe a little bit surprised by Michael's call-up but he's been playing brilliantly for the Under-21s. Stuart Pearce is very close to the manager and Fabio has seen him a few times.
"Stuart said he's been the best Under-21 player in the last 10 games. He's quietly confident in his own ability and not happy about sitting in the reserves.
"And I know that the Villa youngsters who are here like Gabby Agbonlahor and Ashley Young can be a nightmare to play against. Look at what they did at Arsenal in Saturday's 2-0 win. It's good to come away and see what they're like day in, day out.
"Maybe in 10 or 15 years' time I'll turn round to people and say 'I played with them'."
