Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso on brink of stunning Spain family record

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is on the brink of making Spanish football history this week.

Called into the Spain squad by Julen Lopetegui, Alonso can place his family at the top of the nation's football tree.

Should he make his debut against either Germany or Argentina in this week's friendlies, the former Real Madrid defender will become the third member of the Alonso family spanning three generations to play for Spain.

His grandfather Marcos played for Real Madrid between 1954 and 1962, while Dad 'Pichi' was not as successful as Marcos I at club level, but boasts more Spain caps.

Marcos III, 27, has only been capped at U19 level, but is now on the brink of a senior debut thanks to his form with Chelsea this term.
