Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has revealed that he is devastated over the news that Hull City footballer Ryan Mason will have to retire.
Cahill was involved in a head-to-head clash with Mason when the two sides met last season. Both players hurt their head, but Mason's injury was far worse.
He suffered a skull fracture, and doctors have recommended that he retire if he wants to keep his brain and body safe for the future.
Cahill said on Twitter: "Devastated to hear today's news from Ryan.
"Competing for a corner is something we've done thousands of times and to see those consequences for a top professional like Ryan is heartbreaking.
"Sending all my love to him and his family, and wishing him the best for the future."
