Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has started rehabilitation work following surgery on his serious knee injury after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. The England international underwent an operation on the problem on Saturday.

Cole will miss the rest of the season, but club doctor Bryan English has confirmed he has already started the recovery process.

English told the club's official website: "There is no period of rest, work begins straight away, but it is very low grade.

"A quicker rehabilitation afterwards can happen if you bite the bullet after surgery and put up with a bit of discomfort."
