Chelsea are convinced they'll sign Southampton fullback Luke Shaw. The London Evening Standard says Chelsea are confident they will beat Tottenham to the signing of Shaw but will have to wait until summer to attempt a £20m deal.
Jose Mourinho's side have made the 18-year-old their first choice to become the long-term successor to Ashley Cole, who will be handed another one-year extension to keep him at the club until 2015.
Chelsea were hoping to persuade Southampton to sell in the January transfer window but they are under no pressure to do so after Shaw signed a five-year contract in July.
Shaw is a life-long Chelsea supporter and was at the club's development centre in Guildford when he was eight years old, yet was never offered a place in their academy.
