Chelsea confirm Drogba return

Chelsea have confirmed the re-signing of club legend Didier Drogba.

The Ivory Coast striker has penned a one-year deal with the Blues, completing a return to Stamford Bridge after leaving in the summer of 2012.

Drogba departed west London after starring in the Champions League final win over Bayern Munich, capping a stellar eight years with the Blues, but is now back after leaving Turkish club Galatasaray.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said it was not a sentimental move to bring the powerful 36-year old back to the club where he sits fourth on the all-time scorers list.

"He's coming because he's one of the best strikers in Europe," Mourinho told the club's official website.

"I know his personality very well and I know if he comes back he's not protected by history or what he's done for this club previously. He is coming with the mentality to make more history."

Drogba, who left Chelsea for Shanghai Shenhua two years ago, has scored 157 goals in 341 appearances while winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League, four FA Cups and two League Cups.
