Chelsea coach hails fans for FA Youth Cup backing

Chelsea U18 manager Joe Edwards hailed the Blues support after their FA Youth Cup win over AFC Wimbledon.

Chelsea attracted 3,455 crowd at Kingsmeadow for this week's Cup win.

"Coming into the game, we knew exactly what to expect in terms of the occasion and the environment," Edwards told the official Chelsea website. "It was a fantastic crowd and all credit must go to AFC Wimbledon for the way they promoted and hosted it. The fans were brilliant and the pitch was not ideal so it had all the settings of a Cup tie and of the challenges we want to give our players in this competition.

"We started well in the first 15 minutes and looked like we were going to be in control, as probably a lot of people expected, but when they equalised we appeared to lose our way. The pitch is never an excuse for top players but some of them had an off-key night, particularly on the ball, and for all those reasons it because a very difficult night for us. Even though we won 4-1, that is a scoreline that we didn't really justify."
