Chelsea management felt former coach Avram Grant simply wasn't comfortable in the spotlight, it has been revealed.
"It wasn't his fault the players were used to somebody as charismatic as Jose (Mourinho), but Avram never got close to getting their confidence.
"He was seen as Roman's mole and even though he wanted to do things his way, there was always that suspicion of him.
"It became clear to everybody that Roman had made a mistake, that he'd put in his own man even though it wasn't the right decision.
"It was only right at the end of the season anybody had the nerve to point out what was going wrong.
"That's when the decision was taken. Chief executive Peter Kenyon and chairman Bruce Buck were told not to make any promises about Avram's future.
"That told its own story and even if Chelsea had beaten Manchester United in Moscow or won the Premier League, his days were still numbered."
