Chelsea are rivaling Manchester United for Southampton fullback Nathaniel Clyne. Clyne is baulking at new contract talks with Saints as United circle.
The Mirror says Chelsea have made checks on Clyne this season and earmarked him as a potential signing to help increase their number of home grown players.
Clyne, rated at around £15m, joined Saints in 2012 and his current deal expires in 2016.
