Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck believes responsibility for picking and choosing players should rest with the manager and not directors of football. Even the Blues employ Frank Arnesen in a sporting director capacity, but Buck insists coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is given free rein when it comes to identifying potential new arrivals.

"We don't support the model where the director of football buys all the players and dumps them in the lap of the first-team manager," Buck told the Leaders in Football conference.
