Chelsea captain Terry happy to silence his doubters

John Terry was considered a spent force in world football by many not long ago, but the Chelsea skipper has proved critics wrong by leading the club to another Premier League title on Sunday.

Ex-Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez said, during the 2011-12 season, that the 34-year-old defender "couldn't play two games a week".

"He said I couldn't play two games a week, let alone three," said Terry, who signed a new one-year deal last month.

"I don't need to stand here and prove him wrong. My football's done that for my whole career and you have the last laugh when you pick up trophies again.

"It's nice to respond the way I have in the last two years. I've played every minute of every game this season and I hope to go on and play every minute of every game until the end.

"Even at school it was my mentality to prove people wrong. In life you have to bounce back and respond. I've had to dig deep and I feel as if I've done that in my career.

"When people write you off it does spur you on for sure. It's not nice when you've been at the top for so long. "I know there will be a point when that's it and I'll be the first to say, 'listen, I can't do this any more'."
