Chelsea captain Terry: England defensive plans out the window

Chelsea captain John Terry admits England's defensive plans are "out the window" after the injury suffered by Tottenham's Ledley King.

Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher's fallibility is particularly worrying for Terry, who suffers when he is not alongside a defender with more pace than him, such as Rio Ferdinand, King or Ricardo Carvalho at Chelsea.

Terry was remarkably honest about England's defensive problems and is preparing himself for a busy week on the training ground, during which he expects to be paired with Carragher, Michael Dawson and Matthew Upson at various points.

Dawson is the quickest of the three, but for Fabio Capello to select an uncapped player who was not in his original squad for such an important game would be a huge gamble.

"The manager's plans have gone out the window a little bit, but everyone knows his role and his job, so there are no excuses," Terry said. "Matty was obviously third-choice centre half for quite a while, but with Carra coming back and Leds back on the scene as well, it's been hard for him.

"It's down to us as professionals to get to know each other. If I didn't, I'd be out there in the afternoon doing extra training with them or having conversations with them in their rooms. The manager has rotated the centre halves in training and we've got to know each other well enough."
