Chelsea boss Villas-Boas to make opening bid for Real Madrid defender Pepe

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is moving for Real Madrid defender Pepe.

The Daily Star says Chelsea hope to lure the 28-year-old to London by offering him a five-year deal worth around £4.5m per season.

Pepe cost Real Madrid £27m when they signed him in 2007 but he is out of contract next summer and available for a fraction of that fee.

Real boss Jose Mourinho will be furious that Chelsea are trying to tempt the star away from the Bernabeu. Real thought Pepe had agreed a new four-year contract worth £4m a year at the end of last season but he has yet to put pen to paper.
