Chelsea boss Villas-Boas determined to drive down wage bill with Lampard, Terry under spotlight
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is determined to push on with a senior player clearout - including Frank Lampard.
The Sunday Mirror says AVB is on a mission to get the high earning and ageing players off Chelsea’s books.
Nicolas Anelka has left and Didier Drogba is set to follow him in the summer leaving Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry as the last of the high earners at the club.
Terry is in a problematic situation with a court case on the horizon that could see him leave Chelsea if it goes against him. Cole is still highly rated by Villa-Boas while Lampard has to decide whether to put money before football.
He can continue to pick up £150,000 a week for 18 months and play a minor role or decide to move on for the guarantee of regular football elsewhere.

The departure of the likes of Drogba, Anelka, Kalou, Mikel, Fereira and Malouda will help the books at Chelsea. The refit needed in Chelsea will require only four additions. A defender is needed. If they can get Cahil, he will compete with Terry and Ivanovic for the two central defensive spots while Luiz's surge and skills will fit in perfectly in the right back. A right winger will also be needed to free up Sturridge to combine with Torres or any buy in the sriking position. A striker of the calibre of Hulk and Cavani are also required.
