Although Mourinho is reluctant to take credit for Torres’s apparent transformation, he is keen for the Spain striker to remain relaxed at all times.
“He is responsible for his self‑motivation and commitment, for the way he works every day,” said Mourinho. “I don’t like the story that one day a player is a disaster and the next day he is phenomenal.
“I want Fernando to be stable and not worry too much about proving himself, whether he’s scoring or whether he’s not scoring, whether he scores against Newcastle. Just work for the team.
“I feel Fernando is giving his best in every game. Whether he is man of the match against City, whether he’s not man of the match, or if he’s on the bench, I feel he always gives his best, and that’s the most important thing for me.”
