Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is delighted with the form of his new midfield pairing.
The central pairing of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas have pleased Mourinho this season.
Mourinho told chelseafc.com: "They've started every game together, except the match against Bolton, and I think this is very important for them.
"They understand each other very well. People sometimes can look to a guy like Matic and think he's a physical player, but he's very technical too. He plays fantastic football. He thinks very quickly. Both are playing really well together.
"We also have Mikel who has a lot of similarities with Matic. When Matic is not playing and I decide to play Mikel we can keep that stability. At the same time Fabregas can play in another position which he is adapted to. He likes that, to feel freer and be closer to the striker.
"We have quite a small squad in terms of numbers but because of the players' qualities it gives us good possibilities."
