Chelsea boss Mourinho expecting difficult knockout phase

Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea will be dealt a tough opponent for the next stage of the Champions League.

The Blues finished top of Group E to gain a seeded position in the Round of 16 and will be drawn against one of five teams when UEFA conduct the draw on December 16.

With Chelsea ineligible to meet fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester City as well as Group E opponents Schalke in the next phase, the Londoners will go up against either Bayer Leverkusen, Galatasaray, Olympiakos, Zenit St Petersburg and AC Milan.

Mourinho feels all five will give Chelsea a stern test: "Of course we look to the top ones that won the groups and you see there the main candidates to win the competition," Mourinho said.

"But in the second position we have difficult teams. We have champions. We have the Russian champions, we have the Greek champions.

"We have a German team, Leverkusen, as a German team, is always difficult. We have the Turkish champions with King Didier (Drogba).

"And Milan is Milan. They only won seven times. It's hard.

"And when it goes to the knockout phase things become very tactical one way, very emotional by another way. It will be always difficult.

"The fact the second game is at home means nothing. I don't care if the second game is away or at home."
