Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is making a surprise move for Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Valdes comes off contract in June and has no plans to discuss a new deal with Barca. He is free to commit to a pre-contract with a club outside of Spain from January 1.

Sport says Mourinho has already made soundings about bringing Valdes to London next season, amid claims he has concerns over the form of Petr Cech.

Thibaut Courtois is currently on-loan with Atletico Madrid, but at 21 is regarded as too green by Mourinho to immediately succeed Cech next season.

Instead, he is exploring the prospect of signing Valdes, whose €10 million-a-year contract demands won't be a problem for Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

PSG and AS Monaco are also in contact with Valdes' camp about a 2014 switch.
